Your first session is primarily focused on getting to know you and understanding your unique experiences and concerns.
We'll begin with a conversation about what brought you to therapy and what you hope to get out of it.
I’ll also ask some questions to better understand your background, including your personal history, current challenges, and any previous experiences with therapy.
Fundamentally we will discuss how we can work together moving forward, including any potential areas of focus for future sessions. It’s important that you feel comfortable throughout this process, so please feel free to ask any questions or share any concerns you may have both in session or in subsequent sessions.

In therapy, you have the freedom to discuss whatever is on your mind. Each session is a space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with an orientation toward collaboratively determined goals. Common focus areas can include:
Personal Challenges: Whether it’s stress, anxiety, depression, or life transitions, we can work together to understand and address these issues.
Relationships: You may want to discuss your connections with family, friends, or romantic partners and explore ways to enhance communication and understanding.
Self-Discovery: Many clients use therapy to learn more about themselves, their values, and their goals, helping to create a more meaningful life.
Coping Strategies: If you’re facing difficult situations, we can develop practical skills to help you manage stress, improve resilience, and foster emotional well-being.
Trauma and Resolution: If you’ve experienced trauma, therapy can be a space for processing those events and beginning the journey toward resolution.
Remember, you set the pace and focus. A therapist’s role is to guide and support you in navigating whatever topics you choose to bring to the table, working toward achieving your determined goals.
-
The number of therapy sessions you may need can vary significantly based on your individual circumstances and goals. Generally, clients may find that they benefit from anywhere between 6 to 12 sessions, particularly for specific issues or challenges. However, some individuals may require longer-term support, especially if they are navigating deeper emotional concerns or life transitions.
For optimal outcomes and engagement, we encourage clients to attend a minimum of one session a week or one session a fortnight.
During our initial sessions, we will collaboratively explore your needs and establish a plan tailored to you. This plan may be adjusted over time as we monitor your progress and evaluate the effectiveness of our work together.
